Introduction

Many who visit this website will be aware that historically extrusion companies with little initial knowledge of piling, entered the market with plastic replicas of known steel pile shapes.  Over time many of these developed their products to circumvent the fact that plastic replicas will never drive or function in the same way as the steel systems they emulate.  Stronger interlocks, deeper sections and ribs, are a few common means introduced to improve the characteristics of their products.  The development of these products has created substantial interest and promised so much, yet few have delivered.

Over the past few years a very small number of extrusion companies, together with industry experts and end users have decided that to truly produce a superior product, the piles must be designed to both best suit the material used and to take advantage of the fact that many new shapes can easily be produced through the extrusion process.  Plastics, particularly PVC offers many advantages over traditional materials such as steel, timber and concrete, but when placed in direct competition, PVC has several disadvantages, including lower load carrying, and typically more difficult installation.

APE is extremely pleased to be working with a number of global producers that not only have sought to develop the best plastic pile systems, but have also gone the stage further.  Where a plastic piling system suffers a know disadvantages these innovative producers have sought to combine the strengths of traditional materials  with that of those of plastics.

This adoptive approach is very easy to appreciate, consider the ProLock and MultiLock sections, these are plastic piling systems used in conjunction with timber posts or steel tubular piles. Those existing users of steel and timber need not discard all they have learnt, and can now add to their installed systems with plastic piles that protect the internal supports from rot, rust or marine borers.

The Truline Products are a further development on this, and Truline have introduced a novel system based around a unique U channel design, and auxillary components such as end plates and angles.  These piles and components are then filled with gravel and concrete, a modern development based upon adopting the benefits of gabions and internally more substantial concrete capping.

The Truline system of multi-use components allows for:

  • The versatility to create piled walls for various land configurations while maintaining joint integrity.
  • The ability to configure wall returns to protect the new wall from failure of adjacent walls.
  • Unique methods for joing Truline to an existing concrete wall.

The Unique U-Channel design results in:

  • A smooth, flat external wall surface improving aesthetics through complete elimination of traditional corrugations.
  • The capability of the wall sections to be filled with gravel improving the strength and enhancing the drainage characteristics,
  • Less complicated formwork requirements, reducing installation time whilst create a more substantial integral capping system.
  • Stiffer sections of a uniform configuration maximising installation speeds, as sheet flexing is virtually eliminated.
  • Double interlocking.

The Dual interlocking joints:

  • Eliminate interlock separation.
  • Provide superior control of joint spacing.
  • Improve the ability to install the piles plumb.
  • Virtually eliminate leakage, ideal for flood defences.
