Air Hammers

Aldridge Piling, offers the most comprehensive range of air power impact hammers, and no less than eight sizes are available from the APE No.1 through to the BSP 700N.  These hammers are suitable for driving timber posts, steel trench sheeting, steel piling, Armco Crash Sections, and plastic piling.

Overview

  • Very basic hammer design, impact based with a rapid blow action and air powered.
  • Wide size range available in the UK, ranging from the APE No.1 (90Kgs) through to the BSP 700N (3000Kgs).
  • Less affected by ground type, typically used to finish drive to depth, if not for the full drive.

  BSP 600N

Advantages

  • Economic to hire.
  • Well-established basic design.
  • Wide size range available.
  • Can be handled by an excavator.
  • Will drive sheets into virtually all ground conditions.
  • Simple to use.

BSP 500N

Disadvantages

  • Separate compressor required.
  • Prone to freezing up in cold weather.
  • Does not permit sheet handling, sheets need to be pre-pitched.
  • Open lubrication system can pose a pollution issue.
  • High noise levels.
  • Not suitable for extraction – see impact extractor section.

Copco 400

Environmental

  • High noise levels, typically around 134 dB Lwa at 10 metres (BS5228) – hearing protection is a mandatory requirement when used.
  • Ground vibration considered to be of a continuous nature, although less likely to result in settlement as forces are single direction.
  • Open lubrication system, some units can be lubricated with Bio-oils.
